Clint's story
As the dust slowly settles over the last couple of days and we both settle into life as parents, both Sarah and I wanted to write a few lines and let you know exactly how amazing our whole birth experience was.
Sarah experienced her first surge at approximately 20:35 on Saturday night, January 17th and although she felt some slight discomfort initially she dismissed the surge as a twinge. Five minutes later her second surge arrived and eyebrows began to raise at the potential events that may unfold over the next few hours. 15 minutes passed by uneventfully and at this stage we dismissed the possibility of Robyn's early arrival for some strange reason and settled in for a night in front of the telly.
Needless to say our suspicions were soon raised again when Sarah experienced several surges over a short space of time with each one lasting somewhere close to the magic minute mark. Unfortunately however by this point the surges were increasing in sensation and Sarah found it hard to concentrate on her breathing. We commenced with the CD and affirmations, however Sarah was still finding it hard to concentrate any concerted effort into her relaxation.
With the surges coming thick and fast, we decided to contact the midwives at Derby City Hospital and after listening to their advice we decided it was best to proceed to the hospital and let the staff examine Sarah.
Arriving at Derby hospital at approximately 23:00, Sarah was soon examined and at that point we were ushered into a delivery suite and informed that we, (well Sarah) was 7cm dilated indicating that her thinning and opening phase was well and truly established. Still finding it hard to concentrate on her relaxation Sarah and I continued with the music and affirmations in the hope that at least they would provide some form of anchor to which she could attach her thoughts to.
Even though Sarah did not utilise her HypnoBirthing relaxation techniques for the surges, due to the sheer intensity of them and being unable to concentrate, when the time came to breathe Robyn down, she adopted all that she had learnt and practiced and successfully birthed Robyn at 00:48 with no tearing of the perineum, no pain or discomfort and very little use of the gas and air. All in all her birthing experience lasted less than 4 and a half hours and Robyn weighed in at 7lb 1oz.
Now for the sales pitch: Whilst we did not adopt the HypnoBirthing techniques for the surges initially, both Sarah and I deeply feel that the whole experience was made more enjoyable and less stressful due to the techniques and teachings. Robyn Louise is a happy, contented and far from grizzly baby and the only time we hear from her is when she needs feeding or changing. Sarah hardly experienced any discomfort after the birth and all in all I can comprehensively say that had we not attended your course and utilised the techniques the birth of our daughter would have been a much more traumatic experience for both mother and baby. Having been a sceptic at the start of the course and having seen the techniques in practice, I am happy to say that I will be recommending HypnoBirthing to all of our friends.
Many thanks for all that you have done and given us and I look forward to preaching to the masses about the joys and wonder of HypnoBirthing. Should we decide to have a second child we will definitely be adopting HypnoBirthing and look forward to introducing you to Robyn Louise. We look forward to seeing you soon.
