Birth Stories

'HypnoBirthing made our experience so unbelievably special!'

Andrew's story

Hi Wendy, Peggy and I are over the moon to let you know that our littleboy - weighing in at 8lb - arrived at 5.15 am on Sunday 4th May. We have called him Ahab Gray Wilson and he is as chilled and happy as you told us hypnobabies tend to be.

Let me tell you about our hypno home birth experience.

On Saturday (3rd May) Peggy had slight back ache and twinges in her lower tummy, however we continued being active - visiting the nursery, garden centre and ice cream at Hardwick Hall to name but a few. Peg went to bed around 10am continuing with her affirmations and visualisations, as we did every night since our first session with you. At midnight Peg felt her surges starting to come and at 2.15am Peg woke me as she felt her surges becoming stronger and more frequent. Peg continued with a very focused mind as she had done since midnight.

The next two hours were spent mostly in the bathroom where Peg had a bath and continued focusing and deep breathing through the surges. We had at this time put the call into the City Hospital Maternity ward. At 3.30am the surges really speeded up to about one every two minutes and lasting about 40 seconds
- Peg continued with a very focused mind and with the deep breathing. We called the midwife triage again and advised them of the changes and suggested the community midwife made their way to us. They thought Peg was still in early labour and, well, suggested we should go to the City Hospital for a check up. No way was that going to ever happen. The phone calls continued and finally at 4.30 the midwife finally agreed to come.

Meanwhile we had set up a soft area in our bedroom with the Comfort Zone CD playing quietly in the background and lights dimmed low. Peg really deepened her focus and her breathing changed, almost automatically, to her birth breathing as Peg could feel Ahab 'moving down'. At 5am Peg could feel Ahab arriving and I could see his head birthing and by 5.15am I was helping Peg to birth Ahab. A matter of minutes later the three of us were sitting cuddled together all on our own. Ahab was born very alert, breathing for himself almost immediately and super chilled. He even looked towards Peg's breast by the time the midwife and entourage arrived at 5.30am. By the time the midwife had got to us Ahab's cord had just stopped pulsing. After a few quick checks on mum and baby I cut his cord and the three of us had lots of skin contact while the midwife supported Peg in the natural birth of the placenta. The midwife left us, almost where she found us, at 8.30 for us to start our new life together.

Although we could not have anticipated the midwife not arriving for Ahab's birth we could not have wished for anything more perfect, we birthed Ahab on our own, we had no intervention whatsoever, Peg had no need for "repairs" and, I have to say, both Peg and Ahab have been fantastic right from the start.

HypnoBirthing made our experience so unbelievably special and has given us the best possible start imaginable. Peg firmly believes that the relaxations, affirmations and visualisations have made such a significant difference to her pregnancy and we both know that we have experienced something that we will never forget.

I am writing this sat next to Ahab - fast a sleep with arms and legs stretched out and without a care in the world.

We are looking forward to introducing Ahab to you at the herbal tea morning on the 22nd.

Take care and thank you for everything you shared with us.
